With its ease of entry and exit points, awesome swim-throughs, and abundant marine life, Shaw's Cove is one of the most popular Southern California beach diving sites.
The beach entrance is located on the corner of Fairview Street and Cliff Drive. In order to secure parking closest to the staircase for your morning dive, we recommend arriving around 6:00 - 6:15 AM. Remember, Shaw's is a residential area so please keep noise to a minimum!
While there are no facilities located at Shaws Cove, Crescent Bay is located just around the corner (to the west) and has multiple restrooms as well as outdoor showers.
This dive site is considered a beginners’ site. It's this site where many people get their Open Water certification.
The entry is a surf entry with waves ranging from about 0.5ft-4ft in height. If you are a relatively new diver, check the conditions the day before to make sure you’re comfortable.
At Shaw's, there is a long rocky reef structure with a range of different sea creatures. The deepest point at this site is about 40ft.
Given that Shaw's Cove is a marine protected area, there are numerous kinds of sea life that you can find surrounding the reefs. Some of these creatures include sheepshead fish, kelp bass, sea anemones, garibaldi, crabs, lobsters, nudibranchs, sea urchins, and many other species of fish.
