Search & Recovery Diver

It happens: People accidentally drop things from docks, off boats or even while scuba diving. If you’ve ever lost something in the water and wanted to go find it, then the PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course is for you. There are effective ways to search for objects underwater that increase your chances of success. And there are good and better methods to bring up small, large or just awkward items. Search and recovery can be challenging, but a whole lot of fun. Throughout four scuba dives, you’ll practice:

  • Swimming search patterns using your compass and natural navigation.
  • Locating large and small objects using various search patterns.
  • Using a lift bag for large or heavy objects, plus other recovery methods.
  • Planning a search operation based on facts gathered about a lost object prior to the dive.

To finish this course, there are 4 dives you'll need to complete.  Typically, there will be a land-based course (discussing navigation and knots) followed by either 2 days of 2 beach dives each OR 1 day of 3 boat dives (boat ticket extra) and 1 beach dive day.

Make sure you check our DB Scuba calendar to find out when we're next running this course.  Let us know if you are interested, but don't see it on the calendar as we can arrange to run a class.

The price of the course is $220.  This includes materials, instruction, certification, and our full rental package (BCD, regulator w/computer, wetsuit, hood, tanks, and weights).

This course counts towards your Master Scuba Diver rating.  Want to read more about other specialties we can offer you?  Here they are!
