Enriched Air Nitrox Diver

Enriched Air Nitrox Diver

You may have seen people diving on tanks marked with green & yellow tape saying something like “NITROX” and maybe you’ve wondered what it is. Maybe everybody on your liveaboard trip signed up for a week’s worth or you just noticed the extra line on the boat waiver for it. Maybe you’ve heard people talk about “Gucci Gas” or “Geezer Juice” and been intrigued. Maybe somebody even tried to make it sound like something scary that required heaps of training and lots of money to get into. It’s neither scary nor expensive, but it can change how you dive – longer dive times, shorter surface intervals, etc. Want to learn more? You’ll learn why diving with air that has higher oxygen and lower nitrogen content gives you more bottom time, along with enriched air equipment considerations. During the class, you’ll:

  • Discuss managing oxygen exposure.
  • Practice analyzing oxygen content in your scuba tank.
  • Set your dive computer for diving with enriched air nitrox.

Schedule

In order to finish this course, there are no dives you’ll need to complete – just classroom. Typically we run this class weekday evenings, but occasionally you’ll see a Saturday or Sunday thrown in.

Make sure you check our DB Scuba calendar to find out when we're next running this course. Because no diving is involved, it’s very easy to schedule this class “on demand” at our shop, so please let us know if you are interested, but don't see it on the calendar!

Price

The price of the course is $165. This includes materials, instruction, and certification.

If you aren’t interested (or don’t have the time) to come down to Deep Blue for a few hours, you may be interested in doing the Nitrox eLearning class offered by PADI. You do almost the entire class online and only come to Deep Blue to test out. The eLearning version costs $245 and you can purchase that class here.

In addition to counting towards your Master Scuba Diver Rating, this course is highly recommended if you are going for your Divemaster rating! Want to read more about other specialties we can offer you? Here they are!
